This year marks the 120th anniversary of the conclusion of the Anglo-Japanese Alliance. The reception included an opening address by Rear Admiral Moorhouse, Commander of CSG21, and discussions with a number of people involved in Japan-UK defence cooperation. He also hosted a reception on board HMS Belfast to celebrate the port call and the Self-Defence Forces Day. This visit, in reciprocation for the CSG21’s visit to Japan, included joint exercises between the JMSDF and the Royal Navy, exchanges with the Royal Navy aircraft carriers Queen Elizabeth and Prince of Wales and security discussions with the Royal Navy as well as exchanges with young officers, memorial services for the war dead and musical performances.Īmbassador Hayashi welcomed Kashima as she passed under Tower Bridge, and then gave a media interview on board the ship together with Rear Admiral Komuta, Commander of the Training Squadron.
